Head coach Peter Pappagianopoulos of Lynn lacrosse couldn’t have been happier with his team’s 10-9 win against Malden on Tuesday, especially since Malden defeated Lynn earlier this season by five goals.
“It’s a fun team to coach,” Pappagianopoulos said. “The defense played great.”
Ahead 5-3 at the end of first quarter, and down 6-5 at halftime, it was an up-and-down game between two strong forces.
Despite things staying close, Lynn never lost its one or two-goal lead in the second half. Ryan Dunn and Ian Brown each scored twice, and Nate Sisson scored his first career goal – he was the team’s starting goalie last year.
“He’s done everything for us,” Pappagianopoulos said.
Nick Costa scored a goal and was “incredible from the face off spot” according to his coach, who added “he never wants to come off the field.”
Jayden LeBlanc performed well as he was asked to orchestrate the defense, and Christian Serino played strong between the pipes.
And Stephen DiFilippo did, well, DiFilippo things. He scored four goals on Tuesday.
“He’s filling the net this year. Five the other day and four more today,” Pappagianopoulos said. “Great kid [and a] hard worker.”
Lynn welcomes Revere to Manning Field at noon on Thursday.
BOYS LACROSSE
Swampscott 7
Peabody 6
Jason Codispoti scored four goals with an assist to lead the Swampscott lacrosse team to a 7-6 overtime win against Peabody on Tuesday.
Liam Keaney played the role of the hero, registering two goals, including the game-winner to end it. Liam Herlihy scored a goal, and Timmey Sheehan made 18 saves for Swampscott.
“The game was obviously close the entire time. Luckily, Peabody was never in front,” Swampscott coach Geoff Beckett said. “Timmy Sheehan made huge saves in overtime and Liam Keaney scored it in transition before Peabody could get in on defense. Jay Domelowicz and Eli Zaklin played outstanding on defense, not giving Peabody an inch.”
BASEBALL
Stoneham 7
Swampscott 6
Considering the Big Blue were on the road against a very tough Stoneham team, positives were aplenty on Tuesday.
Swampscott’s starting pitcher, Jamison Ford, submitted a strong performance on the mound, going 4 2/3 innings on the mound while allowing just three earned runs.
Offensively for Swampscott, Luca Croft and Jason Bouffard each had two hits, with Croft scoring one and Bouffard scoring two. Third baseman Ben O’Brien picked up two RBI.
Despite its 1-5 record, Swampscott looks for revenge this Friday in a home game against Masco at 1 p.m.

SOFTBALL
St. Mary’s 5
Gloucester 1
In a very, very windy one at Gloucester Park, nothing seemed to bother St. Mary’s pitcher Anna Fringuelli. She went the distance, allowing five hits and two walks to go with seven strikeouts.
Ryleigh Williams of the Spartans went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Riley Zukas and Brooke Moloney each contributed with a hit and one run scored.
St. Mary’s looks to keep things rolling this Thursday at Somerset.
BOYS TENNIS
St. John’s Prep 3
Westborough 2
In a hard-fought matchup against Westborough, Prep just barely squeaked by with the win. The Eagles return to action against Marblehead on Thursday, and moved to 5-0 with the win.
VOLLEYBALL
KIPP 3
Collegiate Charter School of Lowell 1
It was a successful day on the hardwood for KIPP as its top player, senior Jose Molina, delivered with eight strong serves in a row.
“[He] gave us a great lead in the first set [and] continued to motivate the team when we were down in the second set,” KIPP coach Jacob Roman said.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Lynn English track and field team didn’t find the result it was looking for on Tuesday. The boys were defeated 102-28, while the girls lost a narrow one, 73-61.
For the boys, Zimari Omosefe ran the 200m in 27s, while Waleri Mora Cruz scored a 69′ 9.5 in discus.
On the girls’ side, English’s Danivel Diroche impressed in high jump with a 4′ 2.0, while Victoria Samuel caught eyes in long jump with a 12′ 11.75. Cynya Jackson won the shot put event with a 29′ 10.0 – blowing out the competition.
As for the meet between Marblehead and Peabody, the Tanners ran away with things. Savanna Vargas won both the 100m and 200m, and led Peabody in the long jump with a 15’ 5.75. Alex Jackson of Peabody impressed yet again, throwing a 54’ 9.0 in shot put.
