LYNN — Panelists of different ethnic backgrounds, nationalities, religions, and sexual orientations will be speaking about prejudice at a diversity forum on May 16 at the Lynn Museum.
Attorney James J. Carrigan, who organized the forum, said the goal of the event is to make people think.
“We want to talk about prejudice and its harmful effects to people,” he said.
The speakers at the forum will be Constantino “Coco” Alinsug, Ed Calnan, Mario Capano, Anne Gugino Carrigan, Fatima El Hali, Rabbi Yosef Lipsker, Tanisha Sullivan, Emilia Sun, and Carolina Trujillo.
The moderator is Mike Jalbert, the head of the history department at St. Mary’s Lynn. The keynote speaker is Judge Ina Howard-Hogan.
Alinsug, the Ward Three city councilor for Lynn, is representing the LGBTQ+ community at the forum. Alinsug is the first openly gay city councilor in Lynn and the first Filipino-American city councilor in New England.
Trujillo, the publisher of Essex Media Group’s (EMG) weekly Spanish language newspaper La Voz, is representing the Hispanic community.
Sun, the senior graphic designer at EMG, will be representing the Asian community.
Anne Gugino Carrigan will be speaking about women. She has a comment about Nancy Pelosi that will show what prejudice looks like for women, James J. Carrigan said.
Sullivan is the president of Boston’s branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and will be representing African Americans at the forum.
El Hali will be representing Muslim women. Lipsker, of Chabad of the North Shore, is representing the Jewish community.
Calnan, a former Lynn community development director and city councilor, is representing the Irish community. Capano will be representing the Italian community.
The forum will be from 5 to 7 p.m. After the speakers give speeches, attendees will have the opportunity to ask them questions.
