It’s a good day when you break .500 in the standings, and even better when you do so against the reigning champions in Milton. The St. Mary’s baseball team (6-6) won 9-6 in an action-packed showdown.
Josh Doney threw two strikeouts and allowed four hits across 6 2/3 innings, while Chris Marks (3-for-4, 1 RBI), Shea Newhall (2-for-4, 3 RBI), and Tommy Falasca (2-for-3, 2 runs) led the offensive attack for the Spartans.

Jack Sarno and Christian Rosa shared the mound for the Eagles, combining for 11 strikeouts in Prep’s 5-2 win against Billerica.
Nate Marston went 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Nic Lembo, Cam LaGrassa, Aidan Driscoll, and Jack DiFilippo all recorded RBI to help the Eagles emerge victorious.

Marblehead’s baseball team (6-6) battled back and forth with Gloucester for nearly five innings. From there, the Magicians roped five hits in the fifth inning to put things out of reach.
Bodie Bartram and Riley Schmitt combined for five RBI, while Drew Whitman and Chris Cannuscio played well on the mound.
SOFTBALL
Lynnfield 22
Rockport 4
The Pioneers (7-5) flexed their offensive power on Friday, besting Rockport 22-4. Ava Gamache went 4-for-5 with three RBI, and Lauren Amico got on base with a single and double to drive in four runs.
Ava Marotta, Abi Travers, and Lily Williams each recorded two hits. On the mound, Sophia Brown allowed just six hits and two runs in five innings.

Junior Ruby Calienes pitched all seven innings for the Magicians (5-5), giving up two runs on five hits while striking out six. Luka Bornhorst went 2-for-4 with three RBI, and Isabel Mortensen went 2-for-4 for Marblehead.
For the Sachems (5-5), Lily Ventre went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Danica Schena had a hit, and coach Steve Almquist said she “had a fantastic game in center field making a number of catches.”

The bats were connecting on all cylinders for English (4-7) on Friday as the Bulldogs tallied 19 runs before the game was mercied in the fifth inning.
Kate Johannson (4-for-4, 3 runs), Gracie Mulloy (3-for-3, 1 RBI, 3 runs), Angela Martinez (4-for-5, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, 3 runs), Arianna Reynoso (3-for-4, 2 runs), and Briella Guanci (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs) all dominated offensively.
Johannson also played well on the mound, retiring seven across five innings.

St. Mary’s softball team (10-1) has been on a mission this season, and that didn’t stop Friday. Anna Fringuelli delivered another complete game with eight strikeouts, while Ryleigh Williams slammed a two-run homer to lead the Spartans.

Payton Quirk registered 14 saves and Ava Nason scored a hat-trick to go with an assist, but it wasn’t enough as St. Mary’s fell to Hamilton-Wenham on Friday.
Vanessa Hall and Kasey Litwin each scored twice, while Jill Kirby added an assist for the Spartans.

It was a tough Friday afternoon for the Tigers against Essex Tech. Despite defeat, Jeph Onyghichi had four kills, Jayden Tran had four digs and three aces, and Didlaire Jacques Jr. had four blocks and one kill.
The Tigers look to bounce back Monday against Greater Lawrence.

The Pioneers (7-1) defended their home court on Friday, sweeping Ipswich 5-0. Shea McCarthy and Rafik Khodr each won their respective matches 6-0, 6-1, while Russ Kasdon won every game (6-0, 6-0) against his opponent to round out singles.
In first doubles, Raffi Arkun and Brendan Sokop won their match 6-3, 6-1. Sahil Akhter and Avi Shrivstara won their doubles match 6-4, 6-2 to complete the sweep.

Behind a dramatic comeback in third singles from Marblehead sophomore Matthew Sherf, the Magicians (8-2) bested Beverly 5-0 for the second time this season.
Mika Garber, Jost Eggebrecht, and Sherf dominated singles, while the duos of Etan Farfel-Jayden Janock and Luke Miller-Anthony Vizy did the same in doubles.

Marblehead’s girls tennis team (6-3) took care of Beverly 4-1 on Friday. Pauline Geissler won first singles (6-2, 7-6, 7-5) while Charly Cooper won third singles (6-4, 6-2).
In first doubles, the combinations of Courtney Yoder-Aviva Bornstein and Aoife Bresnahan-Lucia Levin got the job done.
The two teams paired up to support Beverly Bootstraps by bringing jars of peanut butter. Next season, Marblehead will support the Marblehead Food Pantry.

Lynnfield’s girls tennis team (7-3) kept its momentum going on Friday, knocking off Ipswich 4-1.
Paige Martino (6-2, 6-1), Genna Gioioso (6-2, 6-0), and Maddie Sieve (6-3, 6-0) all dominated in singles action.
From there, Leticia Marafon and Ella Hayman won first doubles (7-5, 6-3), and that was all the Pioneers needed.
