You know what I’ve been thinking? Lynn Classical quarterback Brian Vaughan Jr. returned from an injury last Thanksgiving and, spoiler alert, has yet to look back.
Week 1 against Central High (Providence), he rushed for the game-winning touchdown and tossed another through the air. The next Friday, despite a loss to Peabody, Vaughan scored another two touchdowns for both of Classical’s that night.
But that was nothing compared to his Week 3 performance against Somerville.
In the 44-0 thrashing, the right-hander finished with 171 yards and five touchdowns, four of them to his favorite target, John Nasky.
Simply put, Vaughan is versatile with his throws. He can deliver a crisp screen pass, lob one deep, and loves his tight slant deliveries.
The statistics – and, more importantly, wins – could continue to pour in Thursday at Medford (6 p.m.). Classical won last season’s matchup 30-6, and now the Rams have their starting quarterback under center.
After that, the Rams take on Malden, Salem, Revere, Everett, and Lynn English.
Brian, good week.
