LYNN — Mayor Jared Nicholson’s office is seeking applicants for multiple board and commission positions.
Nicholson said in a statement that the available positions represent important avenues for residents to make an impact on the city and its future.
“This is an excellent opportunity for residents to serve and improve the community in areas they’re most passionate about,” Nicholson said. “Joining a board or commission is one of the best ways to become active in the city and advocate for meaningful change.”
The Conservation Commission is one of the bodies accepting positions by Oct. 23 and has the goal of safeguarding city green spaces. Those with conservation backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
The city is looking for new members of the Council on Aging to serve the city’s senior population and organize senior activities. People with backgrounds in senior care and advocacy, as well as strong Lynn ties, are encouraged to apply for the role by Oct. 23.
The city is also encouraging those with a background in and knowledge of disability services to apply for the Disability Commission by Oct. 23.
According to the mayor’s office, commission members advise and assist the city on staying in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations that affect those with disabilities.
The Cultural Council is also seeking new members responsible for managing and distributing grant funds by the Mass Cultural Council and serving as advocates for public programs promoting inclusive arts, humanities, and science initiatives in the city. Applications are due by Oct. 23.
Trustees are also being sought for the Lynn Public Library Board, which oversees the custody and management of the library and its services. Applications are due by Nov. 4 and those with backgrounds in finance, information technology, social services, marketing, and fundraising are encouraged to apply.
The boards and commissions all meet monthly, and members’ lack of participation qualifies as grounds for removal.
