‘Active threat’ locks down Marblehead High School

Ryan Vermette

April 29, 2024 by Ryan Vermette

MARBLEHEAD — A suspect has now been identified after a threat was called into the police station on Monday afternoon, apparently aimed at Marblehead High School. The threat has now been determined to be unfounded, police said.

“Shortly before 1 p.m., Marblehead Police received a call from someone claiming to be inside Marblehead High School with a firearm,” a statement from Police Chief Dennis King and interim Superintendent Theresa McGuinness read. The school was then placed on a hold shortly after. At around 3 p.m., the scene was deemed safe and students were released from the building.

“No weapons were found, and it was determined shortly before 3 p.m. that the threat of a firearm being present in the school could not be confirmed,” the statement continued.

K-9 units were also present, sweeping inside as well as at the school’s front entrance and parking lot.

The investigation is still being conducted, and those with information about the incident are asked to contact Student Resource Officer Sean Sweeney Jr. at [email protected], or call 781-631-1212.

“Interim Superintendent McGuinness is pleased that the District’s established school safety protocols were engaged and followed effectively,” the statement read.
