The Nahant Board of Selectmen welcomed its newest member, Rob Tibbo, at its regular meeting Wednesday evening.
This was Tibbo’s first meeting with the Select Board since he was elected back on April 27. Member Josh Antrim, who was appointed as Chair during the Boards restructuring later in the meeting, said that he and fellow member Gene Canty “look forward to great collaboration” with Tibbo.
Canty added that “We are expected big things from you Mr. Tibbo.”
“I’ll try not to disappoint, Mr. Canty,” Tibbo replied with a smile.
Antrim mentioned to Tibbo at the start of the meeting that the board has “a busy year ahead.” For Tibbo, that began Wednesday night as the board later went into executive session to discuss two litigation cases, one between the town and the Northeastern University Marine Science Center, as well as the Town of Nahant versus three Coast Guard Housing tenants.
This was the third executive session that the board had entered in regards to the eminent domain case between the town and Northeastern University. On April 16, the judge ruled against the Town of Nahant.
Prior to Wednesday’s executive session, Antrim stated that the board, along with its counsel, would “be discussing matters related to the court’s decision and litigation strategy.”
Because Antrim declared that “an open meeting may have a detrimental effect on the negotiating position of the public body,” the strategies were discussed behind closed doors.
“We can’t really share more at this time,” Antrim said
In other meeting news, Town Administrator Tony Barletta announced that the Emerald Road Water and Lowlands Stormwater Project has been finished.
Barletta explained that there was “extra work” done on Pond Street, as the town found that the four-inch main had been corroded down to a one-inch.
“We made an amendment to that contract to get that done. So that’s going to help with reliability of pressure in that area.”
The water work project on Fox Hill Road remains ongoing, however Barletta said the contractor is “making significant progress.” The Lowlands stormwater project has now also gotten underway. A neighborhood meeting was held Monday night to discuss the details of that project.
