LYNN — The Planning Department will hold two outreach events to solicit feedback about recommendations for the city’s Downtown Parking Strategy.
A public workshop will be held at the Lynn Museum at 590 Washington St. on June 12 starting at 6:30 p.m.
The workshop will feature information about the downtown area’s existing parking supply and utilization. It will include details about a series of draft recommendations for the city to potentially adopt to create a more accessible, efficient, and flexible downtown parking system. Additionally, it will include a summary of stakeholder discussions and a public parking survey, according to a press release from Mayor Jared Nicholson’s office.
Attendees of the workshop will have the opportunity to review and provide input about the recommendations to the project team.
The second event will be held on June 18 at the community room of the Demakes Family YMCA at 40 Neptune Blvd. The public is welcome to attend between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
At this workshop, the public will be able to view project information, an analysis of existing conditions, and a series of draft parking recommendations. They will be able to share any questions or provide feedback with the project’s team members informally, according to the press release.
“To date, we’ve had great engagement and interest in this planning process, both at the initial workshop and the survey,” Principal Planner Aaron Clausen said. “I’m excited to share with the community a draft set of recommendations that are responsive to the feedback we’ve heard thus far and conditions as they exist on the ground. The public workshop and open house will be great opportunities to learn more about the draft recommendations and provide feedback to the project team.”
Materials will be available in English and Spanish. Live interpretation in Spanish will also be available, and people can submit requests for interpreters for additional languages prior to the events. To submit a request, email Berta Tavares, the language access coordinator for the mayor’s office, at [email protected].
Participants are encouraged to consider both the current state and future needs of the downtown area’s parking system and how the draft recommendations can best respond to them.
“Residents have an opportunity to engage in shaping the future of parking in the community,” Nicholson said. “With your feedback on the draft recommendations, the city will be able to achieve a vision of a more vibrant and accessible downtown.”
According to the press release, parking plays an important role in supporting the downtown area’s economy.
“The perspectives of those who make Downtown Lynn a cultural and business hub are vital to the success of this project,” the press release reads.
