LYNN — Sean Reid, who is running to replace outgoing Rep. Peter Capano for the West Lynn and Nahant seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, has garnered several additional endorsements. These include labor groups North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters Local 339, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) State Council, and Iron Workers Local 7, as well as advocacy organizations Mass Voters for Animals and the Sierra Club.
“We believe (Reid) will be a strong advocate for improving the lives of working families, and those that are underserved in the communities where we live and work through coalition-building and meaningful actions that will have a positive and lasting impact,” Local 339 President Tom Geary said.
“Sean is the type of leader that understands the value of collective bargaining and public transportation, and the Machinists understand the value of supporting those who support them,” IAM Massachusetts State Council Rep. Michael Vartabediana said.
“Mass Voters for Animals enthusiastically endorsed Sean Reid for representative because of his dedication to enhancing the welfare of all living beings and our conviction that he would be a strong advocate for the protection of animals from cruelty and exploitation,” said Marge Peppercorn, spokesperson for the Mass Voters for Animals Steering Committee.
These endorsements are in addition to the ones that his campaign announced last week, which included the Mass Retirees, Massachusetts Teachers Association, Massachusetts Nurses Association, Carmen’s Union (Local 589), and SMART TD.
“These groups are leaders and champions in their respective fields, so it is truly an honor to receive their support,” said Reid, who is currently a Lynn School Committee member and works at the State House for Sen. Brendan Crighton. “I am thrilled that we are continuing to grow a wide-ranging base of support.”
The primary election that will decide the next state representative for the 11th Essex District is on Sept. 3.
