SWAMPSCOTT — The school district is looking for help with the opening of the new Swampscott Elementary School this fall.

The town’s new $100 million elementary school will welcome approximately 700 students at the end of the month.

The new facility is located at 10 Whitman Road, where its predecessor, the Stanley School, stood for almost a century. The doors of the new school will officially open on Aug. 28.

Students in kindergarten through fourth grade will learn throughout the three-story building. Each grade has its own wing, all of which include a variety of learning spaces.

Select Board Chair MaryEllen Fletcher said volunteering for the school district is a “great opportunity.”

She said approximately 10 more volunteers are needed to assist with welcoming students to the new school during pick-up and drop-off, as well as in the cafeteria.

“The more the merrier,” Fletcher said. “It’s a great experience for people to be able to work with kids, there is a lot to be said about volunteering.”

Fletcher highlighted the benefits of the tax work-off credits for seniors and veterans, which allow them to work with children while also lowering their taxes. She added that this opportunity can be fun for anyone who is interested in volunteering.

The hours for volunteering are flexible, and people can select the days of the week and times of the day that work for them.

The times needed are as follows:

  • Morning drop-off: 7:30 – 8 a.m. This counts for one hour of tax work-off credit for seniors and veterans.
  • Lunch and recess supervision: 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.
  • Pick-up: 2 – 2:20 p.m. This counts for one hour of tax work-off credits for seniors and veterans.

Those interested in school opportunities or learning more about tax work-off credits should email [email protected] .
