The KIPP Academy football team visited Greater Lowell Friday night, but returned to Lynn empty-handed, 37-30, after a solid performance on enemy turf.
Perhaps the biggest positive was the play of quarterback Elai Machado, who led the Panthers with two touchdown passes and nearly 70 yards rushing.
“Elai is really growing as a quarterback. We played tough to the end in a back-and-forth game,” said KIPP coach Jim Rabbitt, whose team hosts Hull at noon on Saturday, Oct. 5 “They just had one more punch than we did at the end.”

This one was never in doubt. Lynnfield led, 28-0, in the first half and cruised from there. Madux Iovinelli stole the show with an 80-yard touchdown from quarterback Tyler Adamo with 3:38 to go in the opening half.
The Pioneers tacked on two more scores in the bottom half to put things away. They host Amesbury at 6:30 p.m. next Friday.

A pick-six from Odin Garron sealed the deal for the Crusaders in Friday night’s fourth quarter, catapulting Fenwick to a 3-0 record. Lincoln Dugan found the endzone twice in the first half and Dylan Paturelli caught eyes with a 35-yard rushing touchdown to the promised land.

Marblehead, fresh off its first win of the season last Friday against Shepherd Hill, made it two in a row. The Magicians jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead and took care of business from there.

In “a hard-fought game from the first minute all the way up until the last,” according to Saugus coach April Martinez, her Sachems escaped the Panthers, who scored first within 10 minutes.
Madison Botta, Shawn Sewell, and Shalyn Sewell found the back of the net for Saugus in a come-from-behind thriller.
“A big shoutout goes to Maria Garcia, who is my sophomore center back that stopped everything that came her way,” Martinez said. “She stopped a couple of shots from going in. She was just a force in the back.”

Sophia Kassis made 15 saves to help the Tanners escape Saugus Friday evening.
“The 15th save made by Sophia Kassis in the fourth quarter marked her 251st save between this season and her first – just last year,” said Peabody coach Jillian Tobin.
Amelia DiBattista scored in the first quarter after a great ball from fellow captain Kate Bresnahan. Saugus tied it up in the third, but it was answered with a goal from captain Daniella White of the Tanners.
