To The editor
One Hundred and thirty-two years ago, at the Lynnfield Annual Town Meeting on Monday, March 14, 1892, the Town of Lynnfield approved an article “To see if the town will elect a board of library trustees” and appropriate a gift of $100 worth of books from the state. This created a Board of Trustees to guide the strategic direction, administration, and growth of the Lynnfield Public Library.
Since then, the trustees have worked tirelessly to improve and expand on Library services. Countless other volunteers have also rallied around the Library as an essential part of Lynnfield’s history and development — from the many book sales of the Friends of the Lynnfield Library, through the building expansions in 1957 and 1967, to the establishment of the Library Foundation in 2018.
This year the Lynnfield community has an opportunity to participate in the next chapter of the Lynnfield Library. At Town Meeting in November, Lynnfield residents are invited to vote on a proposed renovation of the current Library Building, which would create new meeting spaces, expand the Children’s area and other collections, and finally bring the building up to code.
In the same fashion as the School Expansion and the Public Safety Building projects, the Library Renovation requires a vote at Town Meeting in order to become a reality. This year, Town Meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024 at 7 p.m., and I would like to ask the residents of Lynnfield to attend this important meeting to support the proposed Library Renovation.
