LYNN — The city will be celebrating its 175th anniversary as a city on Wednesday, May 14, from 4-5 p.m. at the Lynn Common.
While Lynn was founded as a town in 1629, Lynn didn’t officially become a city until May 14, 1850.
The celebration will include the reveal of the fountain, which was restored to working condition, at Lynn Common to commemorate the event. Community members are encouraged to head down and participate in the festivities.
Aside from the new fountain, the event will also feature comments from Mayor Jared C. Nicholson to kick off the celebration. Also included in the event will be performances from the All-City Band, as well as an appearance from the city’s first poet laureate, Michelle “LaPoetica” Richardson.
Richardson was appointed as the city’s Poet Laureate on April 22, making Lynn the 18th municipality throughout Massachusetts to designate a poet laureate.
Nicholson shared his excitement for the upcoming milestone.
“The City of Lynn is proud to celebrate 175 years of rich history, vibrant community, and inclusive growth,” Mayor Jared C. Nicholson said. “Lynn has grown into a bright, welcoming city, shaped by the strength and diversity of the people who call it home. This milestone is not just a reflection of our past, but a celebration of our journey and our commitment to the future together.”
