LYNN — The Escuela Latina graduation ceremony recognized the achievements of 75 Latina mothers and immigrant workers who have completed one or more of seven impactful programs: Basic & Intermediate ESL, Home Health Aide (HHA), Basic Nails, Basic Computer Skills, Citizenship, and Parenting Classes.

“This special event highlights the power of education and the extraordinary commitment of these graduates, Director of Escuela Latina,” Magalie Torres-Rowe said.

“Each of the graduates has devoted time, energy, and determination to bettering their lives and creating new opportunities — not only for themselves but for their families and our wider community,” she said.

“These remarkable individuals, immigrant workers, have dedicated themselves to studying these courses to improve their lives and secure better job opportunities. Their efforts contribute to making our country stronger and more vibrant,” Torres-Rowe said.

According to Torres-Rowe, many of these graduates are mothers who have worked to improve their English through free ESL classes offered by the Latina Center Maria. In a unique pairing of education and family support, these classes are offered alongside a children’s Book Club, held just next door.

This allows mothers to study while their children engage in literacy activities, strengthening bonds, supporting academic success, and helping prevent school dropouts, Torres-Rowe said.
