LYNN β When it comes to having ideal weather, few appreciate it more than runners.
Such was the case in the fourth meet of the Lynn Summer Track Meet Series, which arrived with 70-degree weather this week.
An additional 32 youngsters registered, which brought the total to 206.
βThe young athletes like to arrive early, so they can enjoy the softball throw and standing long jump β both popular events, in addition to the many running events,β said Joe Abelon, who helps organize running events in the City. βThe running events opened with the first relay of the season with each relay member having the opportunity of carrying the popular red baton many times over the course of the event.β
And at Manning Field, age is just a number.
Lynn newcomer Jiana Almonte, 3, dominated among females with wins in the 30m (9.4), 50m (18.0), 100m (37.5), and 200m (1:28.6).
βLet recruiting begin,β Abelon said.
The meet also welcomed 3-year-old Josiah Wilson, who traveled from Manchester, N.H. to compete against Bay State opponents.
Lincoln Xaltidia, 3, won the 30m in 9.4 seconds, just nipping Wilsonβs time of 9.8.
βThe toddler battle continued in the 50m as the visitor from New Hampshire reversed the outcome, with Josiah running 15.0 to Lincolnβs 15.1,β Abelon said.
Mia Armstrong, 13, won two events: 100m (14.9) and 200m (33.0).
Alyenys Velez continued his short-sprint winning ways with a fast time of 6.6 in the 50m, while Diego Trejo ran a strong time of 12.2 in the 100m.
Fifteen-year-old Kissairy Crespo dominated in the girlsβ 400m with a time of 1:15.7. Franklin Maldonado β once again β captured a middle-distance win with a time of 2:29.0 in the 800m.
The Aug. 11 meet will be the last track meet of the 2025 season.
