LYNN — A two-alarm fire broke out on the third floor of a residence at 32 Cooper Street on Friday afternoon, leaving two occupants with possible life-threatening injuries, according to Fire Chief Dan Sullivan.

Sullivan explained that three ladder trucks promptly responded, along with help from the Swampscott Fire Department. Both individuals were quickly transported to receive immediate medical care via helicopter.

“We were called for smoke coming from the third floor, and when the crew got here, they saw smoke pushing out of the ceiling. After an initial attack, they knocked down the fire and found two victims,” Sullivan said. “Both victims were extricated. One was transported to Salem Hospital, and the other was taken over to General Electric Medical Center.”

He commended Lt. Joel Abreu, Lt. Jake Bradley, and Firefighters Dave Stevens and Chris Carmody for their assistance in pulling the victims out of the 3-story home.

He continued, noting both victims had burns, which he said were “possibly life-threatening.”

“The crews worked extremely hard… We had people here quickly. We had paramedics on the scene who were able to stabilize the individuals before transport. There was also a rehab unit to get water and things for the firefighters,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan added that there were no injuries to any of the firefighters who arrived on scene. He also said there was no indication yet of what started the fire.
