Roundup: St. John’s Prep soccer still alive

Saturday morning came with Division 1 soccer at Glatz Field in Danvers. The Round of 16 showdown ended with top-ranked St. John’s Prep defeating No. 17 Lowell 1-0.

Garrison Murphy netted the game-winning goal in the 58th minute. Matt Droggitis recorded a four-save shutout for the Eagles (17-1-2), who handed Lowell (16-1-3) its first loss.

The Prep advanced to Wednesday’s Round of 8, where coach Dave Crowell and company host No. 9 Cambridge Rindge & Latin (12-3-3) at 6 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER

No. 1 Medfield 5
No. 17 St. Mary’s 0

A scoreless game at halftime, the Spartans struggled to contain Medfield’s offense in the second half. Medfield (19-1) ripped five goals in the final 20 minutes to advance in the Division 3 tournament. St. Mary’s checked out with a record of 10-7-2.

No. 10 Marblehead 1
No. 7 Oliver Ames 0

One was all it took during Sunday evening’s Division 2 clash. Callie Gilmore scored the lone goal and Hailey Gilmore recorded a shutout to send Marblehead to the Round of 8 against No. 2 Longmeadow (TBD).
