You could say it was a good Saturday for Lynn hockey fans. Both the Lynn Jets (1-1) and St. Mary’s girls (1-0) won games by a single goal.
In a 6-5 thriller, Kyle Furlong ripped an overtime goal as the Jets clipped Chicopee at Connery Rink. Leading the way were Joseph Plourde (goal, 2 assists), Anthony Alessi (goal, 2 assists), John Doyle (first varsity goal), AJ Cook (goal), Marc Poste (goal), Tyler Whitten (assist), Nathan Silva (assist), Julius Serino (assist), and netminder Nicholas DeNino (16 saves)
“Great all-around team effort,” said Jets’ coach Brian Boisson. “We will take the ‘W’ and keep working to get better.”
In a late-night Saturday showdown, the St. Mary’s girls needed just one to take down host Arlington Catholic in a 1-0 final. Keira Twomey (from Alyssa Norden) scored in the second period, while Avery Sico recorded a 10-save shutout.
“I liked our effort and we competed hard. It was sloppy at times. We were able to break through in the second period after several good chances,” said St. Mary’s coach Frank Pagliuca. “I thought the forward line of Annabelle Collins, Mya Jewell, and Effie Parsons played well. AC has a solid squad and the CCL (Catholic Central League) is always tough. It was nice to come out on top in a close game, especially being our first game of the season.”
