SAUGUS — The Cultural Council and 411 Committee are ramping up preparations for their first-ever joint event, the Saugus Community Festival: Culture & 411.
At its planning subcommittee meeting Tuesday night, the group discussed what was left to be done before the event on March 21.
One of the main focuses right now is digitizing a logo to continue advertising the event for residents.
Also at the meeting was Saugus Middle High School Principal Carla Scuzzarella, who was helping with the discussion of the layout, as the event will be taking place at the school.
“We have quite a few (tables) on the first floor, and then if we need more, we can run them down. My recommendation would be fold up the ones with the seats attached and get them out of the way because they’re really not conducive to people setting up on a table and letting people walk by because the stool sits out,” Scuzzarella said.
She continued that she could make sure those tables were moved out of the way on the Friday before the festival.
Scuzzarella noted that people were also welcome to bring their food upstairs to eat at the high-top tables.
Council member Vanessa Dellheim said they were also looking into setting up the YMCA upstairs to block the gym, which will not be accessible to festival attendees.
Scuzzarella also let the group know they would be welcome to set up on the Friday before to prepare everything in advance, instead of having to get to the school early Saturday morning.
It was confirmed that food vendors and performers have been reaching out for the festival, and 411 Committee member Corinne Riley confirmed that there will be a dragon dance with the help of State Rep. Donald Wong.
Riley, who is also president of the Saugus Lions Club, said the club has secured the eye and ear tests for the event.
Final discussions included determining the best ways to reach out to the different schools through their administrations and ensuring that the school district will be represented at the event to provide information.
