University of Georgia defensive back Joenel Aguero, a Lynn native and St. John’s Prep graduate, is expected to enter the transfer portal. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Aguero — a former five-star recruit — compiled 80 tackles across three seasons with the Bulldogs. He posted seven tackles (career high) and an interception in an overtime win against Tennessee last fall.
As a senior with St. John’s Prep, not many threw in Aguero’s direction as the physical standout shut down opposing weapons. He also recorded 35 receptions for 607 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Marblehead native Miles O’Neill, a former quarterback for Texas A&M, has transferred to the University of North Carolina, helmed by former New England Patriots’ coach Bill Belichick.
O’Neill has three years of eligibility remaining. Last season, he completed 7-of-14 passes with 120 yards and one touchdown.
During his junior season at Marblehead High, the gunslinger completed 152-of-210 passes with 2,181 yards and 23 touchdowns. He then played at The Hun School of Princeton in New Jersey.
