You could say depth is a coach’s dream. Look no further than the Lynn Tech and Lynn Classical swimming and diving teams, both of which picked up strong wins Thursday evening.
The Tigers defeated East Boston 48-44 and improved to 3-3.
The medley relay team of Hunter Flores, Isaac Powers, Johndeiry Batista, and Colin Newhall placed first, as did Addisyn Brown in the 200 free and Newhall in the 100 free. The 200 free relay team of Newhall, Batista, Jadiel Perez, and Felipe DeOliveira also placed first along with Powers in the 100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay team of Brown, Newhall, Flores, and Ryan Anderson.
“Without many first places, the team did well with seconds and thirds,” said Tech coach John Hogan. “Going against East Boston for the first time, we ended up having a great meet with many close races and best times.”
The Rams took down Revere 93-57. Leading the way was the 200 medley relay team of Jason Silva, Mohamed Sherata, David Gamero, and Solomon Srey, who also won the 100 freestyle. There was a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 free with Silva leading the way, followed by Kelsey Sinapius and Cate Bushway, respectively. Silva also won the 100 backstroke.
Gamero took the 200 individual medley and 100 fly, while 50 free heats were won by Srey, Natalie Wonoski, Jaleel Khamis, and Edgar Chavez-Lopez. The 200 freestyle relay was won by Sherata, Melvin Lizardo, Darvin Kuffour, and Henry Limkol, while the 400 free relay was won by Gamero, Srey, Silva, and Limkol.
“So many swimmers improved their times and the excitement at the meet was great,” said Classical coach Denise Silva. “We had incredible improvement from so many team members.”
BOYS BASKETBALL
Marblehead 54
Peabody 40
Despite solid outings from Peabody’s Thad Broughton (10 points), Mark Mendonca (10), Dom Domenici (6), and Jack Smith (5), the Tanners had little answers for Marblehead’s high-powered offense and dipped to 1-6. The Magicians were led by Finn Baron’s 20 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Lynn Classical 65
Lynn English 43
Behind dominant games from Divine Egbuta (21 points, 19 rebounds), Aliyah Alvarado (19 points), and Jada Tejada (13 points), the host Lady Rams (2-2) cruised by the Lady Bulldogs (0-6).
“We had a good opening quarter and got out to a 25-6 lead after one,” said Classical coach Tom Sawyer. “It was a pretty even game after that, but that first quarter set us up well for the game.”
Saugus 52
Swampscott 47
Despite 26 points from Swampscott’s Anna Kanders, the Sachems escaped with a narrow home victory in Northeastern Conference action.
