You know what I’ve been thinking? Star players seem to shine when teams need them most.
Such has been the case with Divine Egbuta of Lynn Classical’s girls basketball team. After an 0-2 start, the Lady Rams — led by the junior — have rattled off back-to-back wins.
Egbuta’s week began in Malden, where she netted 17 points en route to a 55-46 road win.
From there, it was archrival time with Lynn English making its way into Classical’s gymnasium. All Egbuta did was score 21 points to go with 19 rebounds as the Lady Rams picked up a 65-43 feel-good victory.
“Divine continues to improve her game, gives a consistently high effort, and is coachable. More importantly, she is a great teammate,” said coach Tom Sawyer. “Divine would be the first to appreciate her teammates for any personal accolades she may receive and understands the points she scores is the result of her efforts, but also those of her teammates making good passes as she plays with a team-first mindset.”
Last season, as a sophomore, Egbuta averaged 14.1 points and 15 rebounds per game. She even scored a career-high 32 points against Lynn Tech. Classical qualified for the postseason and upset No. 24 Hudson in the opening round.
Next up for Classical is Tuesday’s home game against Somerville at 6 p.m.
Divine, good week.
