LYNN — Step inside Brew North Cafe, and you’ll immediately feel at home. From the calm ambiance and wooden chairs to the shop’s smiling coffee mug logo, it’s that exact feeling that owners Sarah Blaney, of Lynn, and Sarah Maravelias, who is originally from Methuen, have worked endlessly to create since they first opened their doors in mid-September 2025.
“It goes back to a good reason why we started this,” said Blaney, who goes by the nickname “6 ounce” since she shares first names with Maravelias. “I just want to be the first part of someone’s morning. If they’re having a bad morning… I just want them to have a good coffee and a good day.”
The cafe is located at 200 Lynnfield St., right next to Superior Roast Beef, and is open seven days a week. The idea to open a coffee shop began when Maravelias’ husband, Jimmy, inquired if the space was available for rent. After sitting down together, they further discussed the idea of opening up a coffee shop.
That’s when they reached out to their son’s girlfriend, Blaney, who worked at Dunkin’ Donuts before graduating from Lynn Tech with her cosmetology license. Blaney ultimately felt like cosmetology wasn’t for her and went on to work at Starbucks as a barista and then a shift manager for two years.
“You see her at like, 3 in the morning, and she’s committed,” Maravelias said. “That’s how I was when I was younger; that’s how my husband was. And we just saw that drive way before we even thought of this. She’s determined.”
Blaney said she received a text asking if she wanted to co-own the business.
“Jimmy had just randomly texted me on a random day and (was like), ‘Do you want to open a coffee shop?’” Blaney said. “I was like, ‘Where?’”
It took a labor of love to bring their vision for Brew North to life.
For the space, Maravelias reached out to her good friend Gina Baran, an interior designer in Newburyport, and worked with “one of her girls” on the design concept. The renovations included swapping out the original pinstripe-painted walls for a more coastal blue and adding an archway and cabinets.
Maravelias, who also owns East Coast Marble & Granite, did the countertops and worked with her son, who owns Patriot Metal, on the table frames. Once the space was ready, Maravelias and Blaney worked endlessly to get the store up and running.
“I had more of the barista and manager aspect of it, and Sarah (Maravelias) has the business background,” Blaney said. “I feel like it works.”
Together, they’ve thoughtfully curated a menu that truly reflects the North Shore. Their coffee is sourced from a local roaster, Capito Coffee, in Peabody, and their drink selections include everything from cappuccinos to macaroon lattes. The latter is one of the most popular items on the menu and comes in four different flavors — coconut, toasted marshmallow, cold foam (iced only), and chocolate drizzle.
While their syrups are from France, they’re all-natural and elevate the flavor. The menu also boasts refreshers in a variety of flavors like Strawberry + Acai and Dragonfruit + Elderberry, as well as food options like breakfast sandwiches and baked goods.
As they continue to learn and try out exciting new ideas and concepts, both Maravelias and Blaney are excited about the future for Brew North Cafe.
They also praised the Lynn community for how they’ve shown up for them since the very beginning.
“The Lynn Community has been great,” Maravelias raved.
