Attorney Anne L. Gugino Carrigan, of the Law Office of James J. Carrigan, has long been considered one of the most distinguished lawyers in the city, and now she’s adding yet another honor to the list.
She was recently named to Boston Magazine’s Top Lawyers of 2025 for Workers’ Compensation, a distinctive honor that comes about after an extensive selection process, which included being nominated and then having to be reviewed by an advisory board, which is composed of select lawyers.
“[This] doesn’t happen without the help of everybody,” Carrigan said early Friday evening. Her words – and recognition of others – speak volumes to not only the professional, but the woman that she is.
A graduate of Purdue University, Carrigan earned her master’s from Syracuse University in 1967 and then her juris doctor cum laude from Boston College Law School in 1981. That same year, she was admitted to the Massachusetts bar and then, just the following year, the New York bar.
Throughout her career, from personal injury and disability law to serving as a social worker with the Dept. of Social Services and even as a high school teacher at the Rome Free Academy in Rome, NY, Carrigan has always put advocating for others at the forefront. That includes the Lynn community, where she’s volunteered as an usher at the Lynn Memorial Auditorium and even served as the president of Girls Incorporated of Lynn, a non-profit that empowers over a thousand young girls ranging from ages five to 18 years old through programming and experiences, as well as Bootstrap, now Pathways, which is an adult education program.
As a lawyer, Carrigan was recognized by the North Shore Women Lawyers Association in 2005 as the North Shore Woman Lawyer of the Year and has since then been recognized in 2023 as the Top Women of Law by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. She also received the highest award of the Greater Lynn Bar Association, the John Jennings Advocacy Award.
Carrigan’s latest achievement is a testament to her commitment to her work over the years.
“This recognition highlights Anne’s dedication to advocating for injured workers and her deep knowledge of workers’ compensation law,” wrote the Law Offices of James J. Carrigan on Facebook. “Her commitment to protecting clients’ rights and guiding them through complex workers’ comp claims reflects the high standard of representation our firm strives to provide every client.”
