NAHANT — The Town of Nahant Assessors Department has issued a formal notice reminding residents and taxpayers of their obligation to submit specific tax forms related to personal property ownership. The announcement applies broadly to individuals and organizations with property interests in Nahant and outlines the documentation required to remain in compliance with local tax regulations.
In an official statement released on Jan. 7, the Town emphasized that the requirement applies to a wide range of taxpayers, including residents as well as those who own property within the town but may not live there full time.
“All individuals, partnerships, associations, or trusts, and corporations, residents of or owning property located in Nahant are hereby notified that they are required to bring in to the local Board of Assessors in the form prescribed by the Commissioner of Revenue, Trust Lists of Property,” the Town of Nahant wrote in the official statement.
According to the notice, several different forms may be required, depending on the type and use of the property being reported. The Town outlined three specific documents that taxpayers should review carefully to determine which apply to their situation.
Form 2 is required for all owners of taxable personal property and serves as the primary reporting document for such assets. This form is generally used to declare personal property that is subject to local taxation and must be completed accurately to ensure proper assessment.
Form 2HF applies specifically to “household furnishings and effects” that are being stored or kept at a location other than a taxpayer’s permanent home, also referred to as their “domicile.” Residents who maintain furnishings in secondary residences, rental properties, or other locations may be required to submit this additional documentation.
Lastly, Form 3 (ABC) is intended for organizations holding property for specific exempt or semi-exempt purposes. The form applies to “all real and personal property held for literary, temperance, benevolent, charitable, or scientific purposes” as of Jan. 1. It may also apply, at the election of the corporation, to property held “on the last day of its fiscal year last preceding Jan. 1, 2025, such lists to include the amount of receipts and expenditures for said purposes during the year of the return.”
Town officials noted that the required forms can be obtained in person at the Board of Assessors office, located inside Nahant Town Hall. For residents who are unable to pick up the documents in person, the forms may also be mailed upon request.
All completed forms must be submitted by the March 1 deadline. The Assessors Department encourages residents and property owners to review the requirements promptly to avoid delays or potential penalties associated with late or incomplete filings.
