You know what I’ve been thinking? Some athletes have one speciality. Some have more.
Do-it-all Colin Burke, a standout on Marblehead High’s track and field team, had himself a stellar week against the state’s best.
During a meet against Salem, Gloucester, and Masconomet, Burke went from 5-6 to 6-2 in the high jump, as well as 19-0 to 21-4 in the long jump. He also recorded a personal-best time of 6.91 in the 55m dash.
Fast forward two days. Burke — a four-year jumper — won three medals during the state relay meet. He took first in high jump (combined height of 17-6), seventh in long jump, and seventh in the 4x50y.
“Last spring season . . . he started to take major steps in his track career,” said coach Nolan Raimo. “This indoor season, as a senior captain, Colin hasn’t missed a practice and has spent hours upon hours in the weight room after practice, working on his explosiveness and raw strength.”
The Magicians take part in Saturday’s MSTCA Coaches Invite in Boston. Let’s see what the team has in store for the town faithful.
Colin, good week.
