In a battle between two of the top teams in the Cape Ann League, Newburyport (11-0) stormed into Lynnfield and left with a 78-65 win to remain perfect on the season.
Lynnfield (10-2) entered the game riding a 10-game winning streak.
The Pioneers were led by Grant Neal with 23 points, followed by Justin Flores with 18 and freshman Brandon Doherty with 17.

The Tigers (8-4) avenged their season-opening loss to Shawsheen Valley Tech. Giovanni Jean finished with 14 points, five rebounds and five assists, while teammate Andy Batista added 12 points, three steals and four assists. Brandon Antwine chipped in 12 points and was locked in defensively with five steals and five rebounds.

The Spartans jumped out to a quick start and built a 15-point halftime lead (32-17). Jake Fortier poured in 14 of his game-high 25 points in the first half. Rolky Brea Arias registered a double-double with 23 points and 19 rebounds.

The Chieftains protected home court with a big win over a Northeastern Conference rival. Masconomet led 40-21 at halftime and didn’t look back.

Marblehead had 10 different scorers to help take down the Vikings. Finn Baron led the Magicians with 13 points.
Marblehead’s defense was the key to victory, holding Winthrop to 13 first-half points.

Despite 20 points, five rebounds and four assists from Mark Mendonca, the Tanners (2-11) fell short against Salem.
Peabody’s Thad Broughton and Jeremiah Agbonavbare each scored 11 points in the loss.

The Crusaders made light work of the Cardinals in a dominant win to improve to 10-1 on the season.
Bishop Fenwick was led by senior captains Celia Neilson (25 points, 8 steals and 6 assists) and Caitlin Boyle (12 points, 7 rebounds).
Abby Jenkins (9 points, 5 rebounds), Maddie McMillan (six points) and Jane Koulopoulos (seven points, five assists) also contributed to the win.

The Tigers’ five-game winning streak was snapped despite 25 points and three steals from Jaylianniez Beauchamp. Allison Morales added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Mahlyna Williams (8 rebounds) and Cassidy Calef (6 rebounds) led the team on the glass.

The Sachems couldn’t protect homecourt against a talented Manchester-Essex team. Saugus will look to get back to winning ways on Tuesday when it travels to Gloucester.

Swampscott’s defense held Masconomet to nine second-half points en route to the win.
Cecilia Tripp led Swampscott with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Anna Kanders added 12 points, four assists and seven rebounds.
Eve Byrne sealed the win with two free throws down the stretch.

Winthrop’s Amina Barry pulled down 20 rebounds to power the Vikings past Marblehead. Winthrop’s Jenna Whitehead (19 points, 4 threes) and Polixeni Tsiotos (24 points, 6 threes) led the charge offensively.

In a team effort, the Tanners took care of business on the road at Salem. Peabody’s Ava Ryan, Brielle Broughton, Sophia Galbiati, Taylor King, and Tiffany Dang all played well according to head coach Stan McKeen.

The Spartans (12-1) earned a road win against a strong Cathedral (8-5) team. St. Mary’s Lina Owumi scored the winning point from the free throw line. Charleigh Green scored 13 points in the second half while Sysy Emmanuel led the team with 17 points.
St. Mary’s returns to action Sunday at Bishop Feehan for a 2 p.m. game.
TRACK AND FIELD
Lynn Classical
The Lady Rams fell to Everett (50-21) and Chelsea (60-21) on Friday evening. Senior captain Marianna De Leon placed first in the 600 meters and the long jump, setting a personal best in the long jump. De Leon also finished second in the 300 meters while setting another personal best.
