SWAMPSCOTT — The Town has announced that local elections will be held on April 28, and has released several key dates for community members to get involved.
The last day for candidates to obtain nomination papers is March 6. Nomination papers must be submitted for certification by March 10, which is also the last day for incumbent Town Meeting members to notify the town clerk of their intent to run for re-election. The deadline to file nomination papers with the town clerk is March 24, and March 26 is the last day to withdraw or object to nomination papers.
Nomination papers can be picked up at the town clerk’s office at town hall, located at 22 Monument Ave.
The Town also released a number of open positions and their term limits.
- Town Moderator: 1 seat, 1-year term
- Select Board: 2 seats, 3-year terms
- Board of Assessors: 1 seat, 3-year term
- Board of Health: 1 seat, 3-year term
- School Committee: 2 seats, 3-year terms
- Trustee of the Public Library: 1 seat, 3-year term
- Planning Board: 1 seat, 5-year term
There are also 18 positions open for Town Meeting members across the six precincts. In order for a candidate to have their name appear on the ballot, they must gather at least 10 verifiable signatures from residents in their precinct.
