LYNN — When it comes to getting a foot of snow in the middle of winter in New England, community members encountered both frustration and fun, as some dig out buried cars while others seize the opportunity to go sledding, throw snowballs, and have fun.

Octavio Ponce, from Lynn, said he was glad it snowed, adding that he hasn’t seen this much of it for several years. He elaborated on his reaction to the storm while digging his car out of the heavy snowfall that blanketed the parking lot behind 85 Exchange St.

“I work at the airport, so I had to take an Uber to work yesterday and then take the train home. I was like, ‘I’m not even going to do anything, I’ll just worry about it tomorrow,’” Ponce said. 

While some chose to pass the time indoors by binge-watching their favorite TV shows or playing video games, others braved the cold to go sledding at the Gannon Municipal Golf Course, which saw more than 30 people show up to make the most out of the situation.

Sophath Seang, from Lynn, explained how her children have waited for a chance to capitalize on the snowfall and embrace the cold weather.

“This is absolutely amazing. They’re so excited; this is what they’ve been waiting for the entire winter… Just getting them out here is a little challenging, but being here right now and being surrounded by snow, it’s a great feeling to be in New England,” Seang said.

The snow may have settled for now, but according to reports from the National Weather Service, there is a chance that more snow will hit the area Sunday night, with gusts of wind expected to reach as high as 26 mph. Snowfall totals were not yet clear.
