Lynn Library Board of Directors plans ahead

January 28, 2026 by Deyscha Smith

LYNN — The Lynn Library Board of Trustees met on Wednesday evening, where Chief Librarian and Director Theresa Hurley announced two events happening in February.

From Feb. 1 to March 15, they will be participating in the 19th annual Boston Bruins Pajama Drive with Cradles to Crayons, the Bruins, Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and Wonderfund in collecting pajamas at the library on North Common Street for children in need.

Then, in celebration of Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14, they will be hosting a marriage event at the Lynn Public Library.

Hurley credited Head of Adult Circulation Lindsay Roberts and Librarian Nicole Coates for coming up with the idea initially.

“They’re not allowed to marry at City Hall anymore, (so) we’re going to make an event out of it; get married at the library,” Hurley explained.

They are working with the City Clerk’s Office to host the event, and so far, a total of eight weddings have been scheduled. Those wanting to apply must do so through the Clerk’s office as well.

Decorations and cupcakes will be provided, and a photographer will be a present, Hurley stated.

The Board then gave a financial update, including spending reports for November 2025, which totaled $21,457.90, and for December 2025, which totaled $25,210.32, for materials, security, and library supplies.

The Board also announced that there is a vacancy for the vice president position for the Finance and Audit Committee, which they are hoping to fill soon, if there’s interest.

At the end of the meeting, LaCrecia Thomson announced that she is leaving Lynn. Thomson, who was the first-ever Arts and Culture Planner for the City of Lynn, told the Board: “It’s been wonderful. The Board does such a great job. Theresa does an amazing job with that lovely cultural gem of the Lynn Public Library, so I’m really glad to have been a part of it, and I promise to stop in when I visit.”
