LYNN– Lynn Woods Elementary has been recognized by the U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Public Elementary Schools in Massachusetts, an honor that reflects the dedication, collaboration, and hard work of students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
“Lynn Woods was chosen based on its strong academic performance and commitment to educating all students. This recognition highlights Lynn Woods as a high-achieving school that effectively supports student success across diverse backgrounds,” Superintendent of Schools Molly Cohen said.
This distinction highlights Lynn Woods as a high-achieving school that effectively supports learners across diverse backgrounds.
When asked about the news, Principal Sean Morris, in his first year as principal, said, “We were elated. We work hard every day with our students, putting in maximum effort. To receive recognition like this really solidifies the work the kids and teachers are putting in.”
Morris, who has been with Lynn Woods for 12 years — starting as a third-grade teacher and later serving as a fourth- and fifth-grade math teacher — acknowledged the role of his predecessors in shaping the school’s success.
“A lot of these accolades are due to my former principal, Ellen Fritz. I stand on the shoulders of a giant, and following in her footsteps has been a great joy for me,” he shared.
Collaboration and high expectations are central to Lynn Woods’ approach. “We know we can’t rest on our laurels. Being recognized is wonderful, but we aim to be a high-achieving school every year, supporting student success across all backgrounds,” Morris said.
The school’s commitment to equity and student achievement is reflected in its proactive strategies. “We’re constantly looking at the data of the students and trying to fill gaps to provide targeted support. Professional development and collaborative learning communities allow our staff to reach all learners effectively,” he explained.
Morris emphasized that Lynn Woods’ strength lies in its culture of shared responsibility: “Our second-grade students don’t just belong to the second-grade teacher. They belong to our CIT, to our reading teacher, to our inclusion teacher, to our gym teacher. Whoever lays their eyes on them, they feel a responsibility for them. The kids feel that support and sense of community.”
Looking ahead, Morris hopes the recognition will inspire not only the students and staff but the broader community.
“This isn’t just about Lynn Woods. It’s about the entire school district and community working together. Accolades can show us what’s possible and motivate us to keep striving for growth and achievement,” he said.
“Without everyone involved — the students, staff, parents, and community — Lynn Woods wouldn’t be the place it is. This recognition is also for them and their children.”
“We are proud and delighted for Lynn Woods Elementary to earn this national recognition. We congratulate Principal Sean Morris, his staff, and students on this honor, which reflects the hard work, dedication, and partnership of the entire school community.” Cohen said.
