LYNN — Two long-established Lynn funeral homes with generations of family service, Parker Funeral Home and Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, are joining together to continue providing compassionate, familiar care to the community.
Operations will be transitioning from Parker Funeral Home’s Franklin Street location to Cuffe-McGinn’s Maple Street facility.
The partnership follows Richard Parker’s decision to semi-retire after decades of leadership in the family business. Parker Funeral Home’s roots in Lynn date back to 1919, when Herman W. Parker founded the firm at 559 Chestnut St. in the Odd Fellows Block.
After relocating to Franklin Street, the funeral home remained a cornerstone of the community for generations. Following Herman’s death in 1946, his sons Wendell C. and Hilton C. Parker carried on the tradition. In 1971, Wendell passed the business to his son, Douglas Richard Parker, whose son Richard joined the firm in 1974 and later assumed leadership in 1990.
Although semi-retirement sounds official, Richard Parker will still join the Cuffe-McGinn team and continue to assist families, ensuring continuity and personal attention.
“It means I’ll only be working part-time,” Parker explained.
Parker shared that when people call from the Parker Funeral, he will be called and will help them.
Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home also brings a deep history of service to Lynn. Its origins trace back to 1934, when Walter A. Cuffe, Sr., opened his first funeral home on Johnson Street. In 1976, the Cuffe family merged with McGinn Funeral Home on Maple Street, founded by Lawrence G. and William E. McGinn. The Maple Street facility was expanded in 1981 and again in 1992, eventually becoming one of the largest funeral home locations on the North Shore.
Today, Cuffe-McGinn is a member of the Dignity Memorial family, offering expanded resources while maintaining a strong commitment to personalized, community-based care.
“This partnership feels like a natural continuation of two families who have spent generations serving Lynn,” said Eric Daniels, General Manager of Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home.
Together, Parker Funeral Home and Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home remain dedicated to honoring Lynn families with the same compassion, respect, and familiarity that have defined both names for generations.
