SWAMPSCOTT — During Monday afternoon’s middle school girls basketball game between Marblehead and Swampscott at Swampscott Middle School, Marblehead coach Karl Tenenholtz was ejected and refused to leave the gymnasium, resulting in a forfeit and Swampscott win.
Tenenholtz received two technical fouls and was ejected during the third quarter, according to multiple attendees. When there is a coach ejection, coaches are required by National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) basketball rules to leave the gymnasium.
Coaches who are ejected from a game are subject to a one-game suspension under the rules of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), the governing body for interscholastic sports in the state.
Tenenholtz is also a math teacher at Marblehead High and the varsity boys tennis coach.
Marblehead High School Athletic Director Kent Wheeler did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
