Saugus’ boys basketball team (7-7) defeated Mystic Valley 74-46 on the road and returned to .500. The Sachems — pursuing a state tournament spot — have rattled off four consecutive wins.
Ryan Shea led Saugus with 21 points, followed by Oliver Hernandez’s 13. The Sachems also received contributions from Kam Conroy (9 points), Huey Josama (8), and Jordan Rodriguez (7).

Despite 15 points and three steals from Peabody’s Mark Mendonca, the Tanners (5-12) couldn’t keep up with the explosive Chieftains. Thad Broughton Jr. (13 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists) and Stephen Loris (8 points) also played well.

Saugus couldn’t slow down the high-powered offense of the Hornets. The Sachems look to bounce back Friday when they visit Northeastern Conference foe Swampscott at 6:30 p.m.

Malden Catholic jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Eagles (10-3-2) responded with four unanswered goals scored by Brennan Waters, Joey LeBrun (2), and Logan Daigle. From there, St. John’s cruised with five third-period tallies.

Lynnfield’s Lucas Deraps and Nick Kelter each potted a pair of goals, while Cole MacKinnon also found the back of the net. Netminder Angelo Covino made 21 saves.

The Spartans (12-1-1) bounced back from a weekend loss and put on an offensive clinic against Shawsheen Tech. Victoria Swim bagged a hat trick, while Emma Doucette added two and Keira Twomey another.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Host Peabody defeated Saugus (72-13) and Masconomet (65-20) in Wednesday’s dual-meet. The Tanners (8-0) remained perfect and clinched the Northeastern Conference title. Kayley Bunn (hurdles), Avani Ingham (300m), Lauren Foley (1,000m), Olivia DelValle (mile), Ella Braz (2-mile), Brooke Martin (high jump), and Maddy Holleran (shot put) were Peabody’s event winners.
