LYNN — Water continued to drip from the ceiling inside the main lobby of Caggiano Plaza on Tuesday after a sprinkler pipe burst on the 10th floor.
There were no injuries to either residents or staff, and the building was not evacuated.
The Lynn Fire Department responded and provided fire watch services at the building on 174 South Common St., in Lynn, while maintenance crews assisted with cleanup in residential units and common areas, including wheeling dehumidifiers and fans into the lobby.
There has also been some damage to a few units; of the 176 residents living there, the Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development (LHAND) may need to temporarily relocate four residents.
“Thank goodness it wasn’t as bad as we initially thought, early today, but, nonetheless, it was a major break,” Charlie Gaeta, executive director of LHAND, said. It’s not the first time we’ve had them — just through the wind, the frigid temperatures, we’re just fortunate that no one was injured. Lynn Fire Department was on it immediately, and their assistance is really appreciated – they always come through really promptly and effectively. Our management team and staff did a great job.”
Gaeta told The Item that the state will be arriving tomorrow to continue reassessing the damages to four of the units, as well as some of the office spaces. Elevators are expected to be operational Tuesday afternoon and LHAND staff and supportive services will continue to be onsite to assist residents that are affected.
