LYNN — Monday evening’s fire on Burrill Avenue has left 14 people displaced. The Velez and Umanzor families have opened a GoFundMe that will go towards immediate necessities such as temporary housing, clothing, and food.
A fire broke out Monday evening on Burrill Avenue, with emergency aid coming from Revere, Salem, and Swampscott. The wind-driven fire ultimately left significant damage to the multi-story residential building and forced out two families.
Mateo Velez created a GoFundMe on Tuesday titled “Velez and Umanzor Family Fire Relief Fund.”
“Yesterday, my family experienced a devastating house fire in Lynn, MA that completely destroyed their home, leaving them with only the clothes they were wearing.” He wrote in the description.
It was reported that Velez’s sister, her husband, and their four children — including a five-month-old — were on the first floor when the fire broke out. They noticed the smoke but were thankfully able to escape quickly.
Velez shared that the entire house is currently boarded up and unlivable. This has displaced his parents, his sister and her husband, their children, and his brother-in-law’s family from the second floor. Everyone is currently without a home.
All funds will support the eight adults and six children to be able to rebuild their lives. If anyone is able to donate, they can do so at this link: https://gofund.me/ced0bfece
