SWAMPSCOTT — A new Pierce Enforcer Ladder Truck will join the Fire Department’s fleet to replace the department’s 20-year-old American LaFrance Ladder Truck.
“We’re very excited,” Chief Graham Archer said. “Our current ladder truck is really beginning to show its wear, and the maintenance costs are beginning to escalate. So we’re really excited about a new truck and getting our hands on it.
The truck is set to be delivered to the department later this year and will be built by Pierce Manufacturing, a fire truck producer through Allegiance Fire and Rescue, a fire truck dealer.
The truck model, a Pierce Enforcer LSL 100’ Ariel, features a travel height of 10 feet 8 Inches and a built-in waterway.
Archer said the truck will cost $1.6 million and will be funded through the town’s capital improvement budget.
He added that the project was supported by the town administrator and the Finance Committee.
Archer said the new ladder truck has been on the department’s mid- to long-range capital plan for several years, dating back to his predecessor.
“For several years now, through the capital improvement and budget process, I’ve been requesting the new last truck. The town has a lot of priorities, … so we had to do some hard thinking about when the correct time was to place our order for our last truck,” Archer said.
