Swampscott appoints new treasurer/collector

SWAMPSCOTT — The Select Board recently appointed a new treasurer/collector, Liam Brailey.

“We were lucky enough to meet him in the process of working to build out the finance team,” Town Administrator Nick Connors said.

He noted that they’ve received “absolutely glowing” reviews from Cary, North Carolina, where Brailey is currently located.

“It’s been a very similar career path, honestly, to Patrick’s (Luddy) on the team down there, where he started following the completion of his MPA and has moved up in the ranks. He’s currently the budget director down there. He’s relocating up here. We are really excited to have you join us in a position that is incredibly important,” Connors said.

He noted that the role isn’t just important for the Town, but also to take another item off Luddy’s plate so he can focus on his “finance director efforts.”

Brailey is a graduate of Elon University and has an MPA from UNC-Chapel Hill.

“I’m really excited to get up there and start doing good work for Swampscott. In my experience in budget as well as in the finance department in a couple of different places, I’ve got a lot of good experience working with cash management as well as working just in municipal finance. And I’m really excited to come up there and learn about Massachusetts and be a part of the team,” Brailey said.

Connors said they’re looking at March for Brailey’s starting date.

The Select Board unanimously voted to appoint Brailey as treasurer/collector.
