LYNN — The Lynn Water and Sewer Commission met Monday evening and reviewed bids for the Ipswich Pumping Station Project.
The Commission ultimately solicited bids in February and they received four proposals.
“The lowest response bidder was Weston & Sampson with a base bid of $815,399 and a base bid plus alternate for $1,130,727,” Purchasing Agent April Lozzi said.
“The bid results were reviewed by the engineering of records, CDM Smith, and Superintendent Matt Comeau. They both concur that the contract be awarded to Weston & Sampson,” Lozzi stated.
“There are two pumps at the station. The base bid was for just replacing one pump,” Superintendent Matt Comeau explained.
“ …It’s good to have a second pump, because if something goes wrong, at least you have some potential to draw, and then otherwise you would be… in trouble,” Executive Director James Arsenault added.
“…What would the timeline be on this whole project?” Commissioner Vincent Lozzi Jr. asked.
“…We…pump from December till the end of May. So work can start essentially June 1st. It has to stop by Dec. 1st so that we can be able to pump (again) ” Comeau explained.
Arsenault added that the station can only draw water during certain times of the year, which limits when construction can occur.
“But outside of it, we can’t draw them,” Arsenault added.
The motion to approve Weston & Sampson for the Ipswich Pumping Station Project was granted by a 3-0 vote, with Councilor Obed Matul absent.
