LYNN — Dozens of Lynn firefighters, as well as Marblehead, Peabody, Salem, and Swampscott, responded to a three-alarm house fire on Wednesday at 29 Linden St. 

Lynn Fire PIO Denis Ring told The Daily Item that six adults and one child were evacuated from the home prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. The Red Cross was called to assist with housing. 

The fire was found all through the home, including the first, second, and third floors, and was in both the walls and the ceiling. The cause of the fire is actively being investigated by both the Lynn Fire Investigation Unit and the state troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office. Ring says a cause will not be determined today. 

“It was a very stubborn fire,” Ring said. Firefighters were able to “knock it down” in about an hour, he added. “They were chasing it. Each floor they got to, they found more fire.” 

The original call was for a fire inside the building, and by noon, huge gusts of smoke were visibly coming out of the windows. Firefighters were spotted knocking out windows throughout the home, and the right side of the house showed signs of darkening and burns. The fire, however, was stopped before it got into the attic. 

“If you don’t catch it before it gets into the attic, then that’s when things can get really hairy.” 

Ring praised the firefighters for how hard they worked to diligently respond to the situation before it could escalate. “The guys worked extremely hard trying to locate it…They were able to make a very good stop before it got to the point where we had to pull everyone out of the building.”
