LYNN — The Beverly Police Department is currently investigating the break-in of a $20 million mansion on Paine Avenue.
In a statement from the department, the incident occurred on Saturday, March 28. Beverly Police received a 911 call at about 8:50 a.m. from a neighbor of a residence reporting a home invasion.
According to The Boston Globe, investigators reported that an armed, masked suspect broke into the “Rock Edge” mansion, attacked and tied the housekeeper, who was the only person inside. The suspect then stole multiple items from the home.
The housekeeper survived the attack and ran to a neighbor for help.
The owner of the home, Thomas Swan III, who is the head of The Swan Group that owns commercial real estate and multiple businesses, told WCVB5 that the housekeeper was traumatized from the incident.
The Beverly Police said in the statement that the victim was transported to Beverly Hospital for treatment of non-threatening injuries and has since been released.
“What they did to my housekeeper was just horrendous,” Swan said. “She was held at gunpoint, sometimes dragged by her hair, ultimately tied up and left in the garage. She’s really, really special, but truly traumatized by this, truly traumatized.”
The suspect, wearing a balaclava mask, allegedly stole a Porsche from the mansion, using it to flee the scene. Police were able to locate and recover the vehicle in Lynn.
The Lynn Police Department could not comment on this due to its ongoing investigation.
Swan added that the suspect “knew what they were after; they were looking for what they stole were some very specific and valuable things.”
Though he refused to disclose the items that were taken, Swan told the Boston Globe that he believed “It was probably someone familiar with the house.”
The incident remains under investigation by the Beverly Police Department and is being assisted by the Massachusetts State Police.
In an interview with the Globe, Riley, who moved to the neighborhood in 2018, said that the properties’ front gates were always open but have been closed since then.
