Roundup: Waterman’s OT goal lifts Lynn

Joey Barrett

April 1, 2026 by Joey Barrett

Alex Waterman ripped a game-winning goal in overtime as Lynn’s boys lacrosse team clipped host Saugus 8-7 on Wednesday.

Lynn’s Jeysac Pech (19 saves) saved a shot from the crease in overtime, which began the transition for Waterman and the offense.

Also scoring goals for the Jets were Denim Dembro (2), Jacoby Comeau (2), Derrick Sok (2), and Xavier Beauchamp.

GIRLS LACROSSE

St. Mary’s 15
Malden Catholic 2

St. Mary’s (3-0) remained unbeaten behind Emma Doucette, Shaye Denning, and Ava Nason, each of whom ripped hat tricks in enemy territory.

BASEBALL

Danvers 7
Peabody 4

Despite a two-hit performance from Peabody’s Jack Smith, the Tanners (0-1) met their match in Danvers. Mark Bettencourt (H, 2 RBI), Ethan Waybret (H, RBI, R), and Jordalis Sosa (H, RBI, R) played well for Peabody.

Marblehead 12
Masconomet 2

Rain or shine, Marblehead (1-0) recorded a double-digit victory at Seaside Park. Ethan Harwood, William DePhillips, Owen Coyne, and EJ Wyman recorded two hits apiece for the Magicians.

SOFTBALL

Saugus 12
Swampscott 0

Saugus (1-1) was in the zone, taking down its Northeastern Conference foe in six innings. Sofia McCarrier (6 IP, H, BB, 6 K) impressed in the circle, all while batting 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.

“What a difference 24 hours makes,” said Saugus coach Steve Almquist. “We had a good game today — much better than yesterday (18-2 loss against Manchester-Essex).”

Also helping the cause were Ari Chianca (2 H, 2 R), Maria Silva (H, 3 RBI), Angie Dow (H, 2 RBI), and Sydney Deleidi (H, 2 RBI).

Postponed due to weather/field conditions:

Essex Tech at Swampscott (baseball)
Lynn Classical at Wayland (softball)
