LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield Fire Department has been awarded a $19,000 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant for Fiscal Year 2026 through the state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS) Department of Fire Services.
House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones, Jr. (R-North Reading) and State Sen. Brendan P. Crighton (D-Lynn) congratulated Lynnfield Fire Chief Glenn Davis for filing a successful grant application. Davis noted that Lynnfield’s grant award will be used for the purchase of mobile and portable radio accessories.
“We are grateful to be receiving this grant money,” Davis said. “Each year, municipal operating budgets get tighter, and this grant funding is directed at firefighter safety equipment. Last year, we purchased PPE for new firefighters, and this year’s funds will provide essential upgrades to our mobile and portable radios.”
Lynnfield is one of 307 local fire departments awarded funding this year, with a total of $4.9 million being distributed statewide. The grants provide reimbursement to municipal fire departments for purchasing essential safety equipment such as turnout gear, thermal imaging cameras, hazardous gas detectors, communications equipment, and hand tools for first responders, with priority given to equipment that will assist fire departments in meeting National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
“Lynnfield’s first responders play a critical role in keeping the community safe and protecting the public from harm, often while placing their own personal health and well-being at risk,” Jones said. “Given the dangers they face, it is important that we provide our firefighters with the proper protective equipment to allow them to perform their jobs safely. This grant award will go a long way towards achieving that goal.”
Crighton said, “The men and women of our fire service risk their lives to protect our residents and keep our community safe, and making sure they have the necessary resources is incredibly important. Through this grant award, the Lynnfield Fire Department will be able to make upgrades to critical communication equipment.”
Lynnfield also received a $19,000 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant in Fiscal Year 2025. That grant was used to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) for local firefighters, including coats, pants, helmets, and gloves.
