Like a tricky math problem, Swampscott’s girls lacrosse team came at its opposition from all angles on Wednesday. The Big Blue (2-1) smashed Winthrop 18-3 with seven players finding the back of the net.
Leading a high-powered offense were Cecelia Tripp (2 goals), Bridget Maloney (2 goals, 4 assists), Lea Beatrice (goal, assist), Quinn Kelleher (3 goals, 3 assists), Victoria Pierro (4 goals, assist), Bridget Urbano (4 goals, 2 assists), and Reagan Pelletier (2 goals, 2 assists).
Lilah Caplan made four saves for Swampscott, which battles traditional archrival Marblehead on Friday.

Marblehead’s Tessa Francis (11 K) allowed just three hits as the Magicians won in six innings (mercy). She helped her own cause with a pair of hits, including a two-run homer during the third inning. Also batting well for Marblehead were Tessa Andriano (3-for-4), Ashley Mortensen (3-for-4), Lucy Rogers (2-for-3), and Kate Andriano (RBI).

Saugus, with just nine healthy players due to injuries and illnesses, fell to the Chieftains in five innings. Ari Chianca (1-for-3, 2B, R) and Alannah Duong (1-for-3, 2 RBI) led the offense.
“But the kids battled and fought hard,” said Saugus coach Steve Almquist.

“Coming into tonight, we were 0-6 all-time against Malden, and to win this game, we were going to need to give our best effort and that’s what our kids did tonight,” said coach Chris LeBlanc. “We could not be prouder as a coaching staff.”

Also victorious was the 4x100m unit of McGough, Anthony Brown, AJ Velez, and Sean Toro.
“A nice team win,” said coach John Hogan. “We were missing some athletes due to the flu, but had many youngsters step up with some needed seconds and thirds.”
