To the editor:
As the proud CEO of Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island, I witness beautiful acts of kindness and generosity on nearly a daily basis.
And still, there are times when I am blown away by the goodness of humanity. Sunday, March 29, in Marblehead was one of those awe-inspiring days.
On behalf of our entire organization, I offer heartfelt thanks to the residents of Marblehead — Marbleheaders, as I learned — for the extraordinary support shown for local child Jackson “JJ” Weiss and his family on the day of his wish to be a superhero.
Your community came together in a remarkable way, transforming JJ’s dream into an unforgettable reality and demonstrating the true meaning of compassion and unity.
From local officials to first responders, families, friends, and businesses, every corner of Marblehead played a part in making JJ’s superhero adventure come alive.
From JJ’s pre-wish training days at Marblehead Parenting and District Fitness, to his wish day “suiting up” at Marblehead Outfitters — in costumes made for JJ and his siblings, Luke and Ellie, by Marbleheader Ana Penuelas — to his headquarters at Mud Puddle Toys; his rescue missions at Saltwater Books and Shubie’s, to his ultimate victory when he apprehended the villain Triple Z and saved Marblehead Light, Super JJ and his family were met with joyful support and creativity at every turn. You can view more about Super JJ’s wish day at www.massri.wish.org/superjj.
The cheers, smiles, and encouragement JJ received not only empowered him for a day, but will inspire him for years to come. Your kindness reminds us all of the power we hold when we rally together in support of a child’s hope.
At Make-A-Wish, we believe that every wish can transform a life—and Marblehead proved this in spectacular fashion. Thank you for showing JJ and his family that heroes are not just found in comic books, but right here among us.
We are deeply grateful for your partnership and your unwavering spirit. I hope you’ll consider remaining involved with our organization, especially now during World Wish Month, a global time to take action in support of wish children.
Our work to grant a wish for every medically eligible child is far from finished, and there are so many ways to continue being part of our Make-A-Wish community as the caring town of WishMakers that you are.
With sincere appreciation,
Sean Holleran
