To the editor:
I am originally from Lynn and still consider myself a true long-time Lynner. I am usually proud of the City. However, I witnessed something disturbing on Franklin Street yesterday, Thursday, April 16.
While driving down Franklin Street, I witnessed a fire truck come down the opposite way. Everything was fine until one Firefighter jumped out of the truck into traffic! He didn’t look to see who was coming at all. He proceeded to pump his chest, call the driver very derogatory names, yelling for him to stop! The driver was only going about 8mph and had NO IDEA where these first responders were going! Next, a second fireman walked in front of me just as I took my foot off the brake. He proceeded to swear, shake his head, and stop directly in front of me.
Having been married to a Firefighter in another city, I was horrified at the arrogance, disrespect, and foul-mouthed firefighter’s actions. While I value what they do, they have to understand that we are ALL human and they are NO BETTER than anyone else! Yes, they do a very important job and protect and save lives every day. However, for them to act like buffoon and pump their chest and yell at a fellow driver is unacceptable!
They know who they are. Franklin Street, Lynn, Thursday morning. Do better, boys! We are all on this journey together.
Disappointed and Sincerely,
Eileen McGoldrick
