SAUGUS — At approximately 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the Saugus Police and Fire departments responded to the Speedway gas station on Route 1 North after an SUV had crashed into one of the pumps, causing a fire.
According to multiple reports, owner Joshua Grady’s quick thinking to shut off the pumps after hearing the explosion, caused by the crash, helped keep things from getting too out of control.
The driver of the vehicle was able to get out of the car through the passenger-side door and was not injured, but was taken to a local hospital to be evaluated.
The fire department extinguished the fire, and law enforcement is investigating the cause of the crash.
