Lynnfield family gives back to the arts

LYNNFIELD — The Maggie Martin Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, will once again award a $1,500 scholarship to a Lynnfield High School senior who plans to pursue the performing arts in college.

The foundation was created after Maggie Martin, who graduated from Lynnfield High School in 2017, died from pancreatic cancer in May 2024. Martin was a member of the theater club in high school and later earned a degree in theatrical arts from Gordon College.

“She spent her whole career in Lynnfield schools before going to Gordon,” Maggie’s father, Peter Martin, said. “… She was always passionate about theater and music. She was a theater kid growing up and went on all the choir trips and participated in the school productions.”

Peter Martin said that his daughter’s love for the arts helped them decide to offer the scholarship to a graduating senior with a passion for the arts and/or theater.

“We did it last year. We handed out a scholarship at the awards night in 2025, and we’re going to do it again in 2026,” he said.

Susan Corcoran, the secretary of school counseling at the high school, is accepting and coordinating the applications for the foundation.

“We’re just trying to figure out a way to give back. Maggie was such a kind soul, and we’re just trying to be more like her. The generosity and kindness of the people in Lynnfield, the community, the schools, everyone, has been super supportive of what we’re doing,” Peter Martin said.

He said that the foundation is trying to spread what should be Maggie’s kindness.

“We have to do it for her,” he said.

Applications for the scholarship are due May 1, and seniors interested in applying can contact Corcoran.

Anyone wishing to donate to the Foundation can visit maggiemartin.org.
