SWAMPSCOTT — With the town election just days away, the four Select Board candidates met Thursday evening, emphasizing respect for one another and a shared commitment to the Swampscott community.
The event, dubbed “Community Unity Pledge Night,” grew out of a personal commitment from candidate Charlie Patsios to rise above the noise of the campaign. Patsios invited community members to “take the Swampscott pledge for a positive future that will make our town one of the most inviting communities in the commonwealth.”
Participants gathered at Mission on the Bay, where live entertainment was provided by Johnny Ray and Dan Kenney. All four Select Board candidates attended: Charlie Patsios, Wayne Godfrey, Ted Dooley, and Wayne Spritz.
Patsios said that while the event was initially supposed to be a campaign event of his own, he made the decision to host the other candidates as a symbol of unity and civility throughout the campaign season.
“As a candidate, I wanted to rise above the fray and the discourse,” he said. “It’s the right thing for us all to demonstrate to the town that we can rise above our differences and put the town first.”
The town election is scheduled for April 28, with in-person voting happening at Swampscott High School for all precincts. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
