LYNNFIELD — For the fourth time, Lynnfield has earned the Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation, making it one of 14 cities or towns in Massachusetts to do so for the year 2025. The Growth Award recognizes both major milestones and annual activities that combine to build sustainable community forestry programs over the long term.
This is also the 17th time the town has participated in the foundation’s Tree City USA program and is being recognized for its efforts toward the growth and commitment it makes toward community forest efforts, according to a press release from the Committee.
“The Lynnfield Tree Committee is incredibly proud to receive the Tree City USA Growth Award for 2025. Trees are the backbone of what makes Lynnfield such a special place to live. They cool our streets, clean our air, and give our neighborhoods that unmistakable New England character. This award reflects the hard work of our community and our shared commitment to making sure we are planting for the future. We hope that Lynnfield’s future looks green,” Tree Committee member Melanie Lovell said.
The Committee helped make the award a possibility by putting on multiple programs and educational events, including “Owls Up Close,” “The Wonders of Trees and Wildlife,” and “Squeaky on a Mission,” which, according to the release, engaged the public in entertaining and interactive activities.
“The Growth Award also reflects a town-wide effort in coordination with other town and local groups. Contributing to this award were Lynnfield’s ongoing tree debris recycling efforts, applications for grants that support land stewardship, publications sent to new homeowners concerning environmental topics, and the continued monitoring of our Tree Bylaw with its special tree protection measures,” the release stated.
In 2026, Lynnfield will continue the same efforts made to earn the Growth Award, and Committee members “look forward to your helping us in growing Lynnfield’s tree awareness, plantings, and conversation.”
